The problem: 30 years of urban paralysis
The Serra Alta urbanization suffered from a situation of urban paralysis for 30 years, very similar to ours. They faced 3 failed centralized collector projects, the last one being a discarded project with a cost of 12 million euros.
The processed solution: individual purification
In 2024, the City Council of Els Hostalets de Pierola, in collaboration with the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), is processing an innovative solution: modifying its regulations to implement autonomous and individual sanitation systems on each plot.
This decision completely eliminates the need to build an expensive sewerage network and pumping stations.
Key benefits of the Serra Alta case
- Drastic cost reduction: the cost of the individual solution is up to 90% lower than the centralized collector project (costing only 10% of the previous project).
- Legal and technical endorsement: the proposal received the preliminary approval of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), backed by a favorable hydrogeological study.
- Regulatory basis: the solution is based on a provision of the 2022 Budget Law that covers this type of system.
- Sustainability: the system promotes water infiltration into the ground and a more conscious use of resources, generating environmental benefits.
Explanatory video of the meeting
In the following meeting (video recorded), the technical and legal foundations that allowed this change are explained in detail, a model that we can follow in Santa Maria de l'Avall.
