The problem: 30 years of urban paralysis
The urbanization of Serra Alta, in the municipality of Els Hostalets de Pierola, suffered a situation of urban paralysis for 30 years, very similar to ours.
Throughout this time, the neighbors faced three failed centralized collector projects. The last of them was a macro sewerage project discarded as unaffordable, with an estimated cost of 12 million euros.
The processed solution: individual purification
This brave and pioneering decision completely eliminates the need to build a very costly sewerage network and pumping stations throughout the urbanization, opting instead for bio-purifier technology.
Key benefits of the Serra Alta model
- Drastic cost reduction: the cost of the individual solution is up to 90% lower than the centralized collector project (going from 12 million to just over 1 million euros in total).
- Legal and technical endorsement: the proposal received the approval of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), backed by an exhaustive hydrogeological study of the terrain.
- Solid regulatory basis: the solution is protected by a provision of the 2022 Budget Law that provides legal coverage to this type of system in scattered urbanizations.
- Real sustainability: the system promotes the infiltration of purified water into the terrain itself, nourishing local aquifers and generating a clear environmental benefit.
